Freedom’s Purchase is a historical novel of 82,600 words.

The Story: Lovely, strong-willed Maria loves handsome and carefree Anders. When Anders, fleeing his tyrannical uncle, ships from Norway for the New World, Maria pursues him across the sea. After a year of hardships in a land of northern Yankees and southern Hoosiers, they marry and start life on a prairie farm. Neither imagines the Abolition movement will touch them as immigrant farmers; but when a Southern slave lands on their Illinois doorstep, the young couple steps into a fight they did not seek but cannot avoid.

The Future of Freedom’s Purchase: The manuscript of this revealing look into our common past is now in its third draft and in search of a publisher.
