A Shameless Appeal for Comments

When I started writing this blog, a few weeks ago, I hit upon the–I thought–clever device of signing each post: “Larry F. Sommers, Your New Favorite Author.” A branding ploy, if you will; a not-so-subliminal attempt to influence your subconscious mind.

But it has occurred to me that it may be merely an irritating affectation. Maybe it annoys you, rather than endearing me to you.

So, what do you think: Should I keep it, or give it the deep six? Please discuss.

Thanks,

Larry F. Sommers, Who Hopes to Become Your Favorite Author

  1. I did read somewhere this was an oft attempted ploy by we rookie authors. It wasn’t recommended. But it’s your blog so your rules!

  2. I think it’s fine – it seems to me what you are saying is that you want to be the reader’s new favorite author, not that you are assuming to be.

  3. When I have to ask someone for help a lot, or to answer many questions, I often refer to myself as “your favorite pest.” It’s a wink and a nod kind of thing. “Your favorite new author” doesn’t bother me a bit.

  4. Your tag line doesn’t irritate me, Larry. However, have you considered a different branding approach that more closely fits what your niche is as an author?

  5. Stay with “Your New Favorite Author.” Be bold!

  6. Thanks, Bob. I love encouragement!

  7. Larry, when I read “Your New Favorite Author” it brought a smile to my face. I love a writer bold enough to claim he can be my new favorite author–especially since I already know and like him. : )

    • Peggy, thanks both for your encouragement and for the thought in your comment. One key phrase is “especially since I already know and like him.” I wonder how my “new favorite author” phrase may strike those who know me only through visiting my site.

  8. I have no problems with it. I do not know many authors but I know you. However, I have not read any of your books as yet.

  9. Larry, I am not influenced, neither am i irritated. I appreciate what you write. Keep it up. Les

  10. You are my newest favorite author so it think it is very fitting!
